THE WARRIOR WILL APPROACH TAYLOR WITH NO PRESSURE

After last week’s 7-4 Premier League defeat to Michael van Gerwen Wes admitted: “I battled my heart out but it wasn’t enough in the end. “I played really well in stages – I’ve had two ten-darters and was on a nine-darter and only won four legs, so I’ve got to take the positives out of it and move on to next week.

“I’m playing the best players in the world every week, and I’m disappointed to get beaten but the standard now is unbelievable. I’m playing well but not getting the results at the minute but hopefully next week a bit of luck will be on my side.” This week The Warrior refocuses as prepares for his toughest battle yet against six-times Premier League Champion Phil Taylor. Wes currently sits alongside Adrian Lewis at the foot of the table, but said of his clash with Taylor: “I’ll approach it with no pressure. “I am where I am in the league table, and everyone expects Phil to win. Everybody wants to beat Phil – he’s the best player there’s ever been so hopefully I can do something. “Every week I’m putting myself under pressure to get a result because I don’t want to be where I am, but the standard in darts at the minute is unbelievable and the best ten players are here in the Premier League. “I’m playing well and I’m just not getting the results, but I’ll keep coming every week and trying my heart out.” Wes will take on Taylor in the fourth match of the evening at Cardiff’s Motorpoint Arena this evening which will be screened LIVE on Sky Sports TV.

WIN A SIGNED WES NEWTON SHIRT

It’s been a disappointing week of results for the Wes – he made a fantastic start in his Premier League game against Simon Whitlock, racing to a 4-1 lead before losing the match 7-5 & then had an early exit in the UK Masters. However, The Warrior remains focused and optimistic, and will be back working hard on the practice board in preparation for his return to the Premier League stage in Manchester next week, where he will face Michael van Gerwen in the sixth week of the tournament. The Warrior is also pleased to be giving something back to his fans to thank them for their continued support – a competition to win a signed shirt.

The competition closes on 27 March 2013 and the winner will be contacted by email to arrange delivery of their prize.

DOUBLE DELIGHT FOR THE WARRIOR

Wes notched up his first McCoy’s Premier League Darts win thanks to a 7-2 victory over two-times World Champion Adrian Lewis. The two points he collected tonight also elevates him above Gary Anderson and Simon Whitlock in the league table, following their defeats to Thornton and van Barneveld respectively. After missing a dart at double 7 last week to beat Robert Thornton 7-3 in Bournemouth Wes admitted he was “gutted” not to close out victory and settle for the draw. But as the week has gone on, has come to see it was important to get a point on the board. In his post-match interview this evening he said, “That’s the most nervous I’ve ever been playing darts in my life! “We all know Adrian can play 100 times better than that, but I’ve got the win and that’s the main thing.

“Its awesome being on this stage, I love the fans and the party atmosphere.” Tonight’s victory comes off the back of more good news for Wes – Unicorn darts have acknowledged his tungsten achievements and recently promoted him to their prestigious Maestro Premier Category. An upgraded Newton dart is beginning to flow through the Unicorn manufacturing chain at the moment and will be available to purchase direct in Wes’ shop when released. Unicorn Managing Director Edward Lowy paid tribute to Newton’s rapid rise through the ranks and a place in the world’s top 10. “All of us at Unicorn are absolutely delighted to see Wes being selected for the 2013 Premier League. This is a huge vote of confidence by the PDC in Wes’ consistency, ability and focused talent that has seen him break into the top 8 in the PDC Order of Merit.” Wes added, “For me to be recognized with this promotion in Team Unicorn is another highlight in my career.”
